Physical Health update – Mrs Isaac
This term, Year 2 -6 children at Kensington have been focusing on gymnastics skills as part of the PH curriculum. Gymnastics is a cornerstone activity in Physical Health, offering a perfect blend of physical development, discipline, and creativity. The children have been participating in lessons designed to gradually build on their abilities.
Through gymnastics lessons, children have been working on foundational movements, including rolling, balancing, jumping, and stretching, to enhance their strength, flexibility, and coordination. They have also been introduced to more advanced skills, such as handstands, cartwheels, and partner balances, tailored to suit each child’s individual progress and confidence.
The focus has not only been on mastering physical skills but also on encouraging teamwork, perseverance, and self-expression. Creative routines and collaborative activities have provided children with opportunities to explore movement in fun and imaginative ways, building their confidence as they try new challenges.
Meanwhile, Year 1 children have been developing their ball skills by practising controlled dribbling using different parts of the foot. These lessons aim to improve their coordination, precision, agility, and teamwork, providing a strong foundation for confident and dynamic sports performance.
Parents and carers, we encourage you to take an active interest in your children’s learning at home. Ask them about what they’ve been learning and the skills they’ve been mastering in
Physical Health. These discussions will help them consolidate their techniques and highlight the lifelong importance of staying active and healthy.
