Science vision

An effective science curriculum enables children to confidently explore and discover the world around them, so that they have a deeper understanding of the world we live in. The focus of the newly developed curriculum makes learning meaningful and purposeful for children by providing exciting and practical experiences that encourage curiosity and questioning. Science and Engineering is rapidly growing and are important industries in the modern world. Even if children do not become scientists or engineers, they will grow up in a world that requires scientific literacy and critical thinking skills.

What is the Science Curriculum?

Our delivery of the science curriculum will equip children with the scientific knowledge needed to understand and appreciate the world around them, today and in the future. As highlighted in the aim of the National Curriculum (2014): “A high-quality science education provides the foundations for understanding the world through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics.
Science has changed our lives and is vital to the world’s future prosperity, and all pupils should be taught essential aspects of the knowledge, methods, processes and uses of science.
Our aim is for children to become great scientists through:

Asking questions:

Asking questions that can be answered through a scientific enquiry
Making a prediction
Using prior knowledge to suggest what will happen in an enquiry
Setting up tests
Deciding on the method and equipment to use to carry out an enquiry
Observing and measuring
Using senses and measuring equipment to make observations about the enquiry
Recording data
Using tables, drawings and other means to note observations and measurements
Interpreting and communicating results
Using information from the data to say what you found out
Evaluating
Reflecting on the success of the enquiry approach and identifying further questions for
enquiry
