Communication across the curriculum
This term, Kensington pupils have been learning and applying lots of different communication skills in lessons. Communication is an essential skill in life; to let people know your thoughts and feelings, to be able to work effectively with others, to persuade and disagree respectfully, and to listen carefully and attentively to others so that you understand their meaning well. Here is just a small sample of some of the things they've been learning about. All of these activities help them to become better communicators, both in writing and when speaking.
In Year 4, children have used role play to develop their understanding of characters, their actions and emotions.
At Kensington, we teach different communication skills through four strands that are interconnected. These are; listening, effective use of vocabulary, performing, and finally, drama, Philosophy for Children and debate.
All children have learnt new vocabulary in English, Culture and Communication lessons.
Year 6 has explored different languages, and how these languages are structured.
Year 5 have been working on their performance and drama skills in English and Culture, while they rehearse their parents'performance, which is on 12th December.
Children in Year 3 have been working on how to have a polite and friendly conversation with others. This week they got to put these skills into practice when they met some local elders, and got to chat with them.
Children in EYFS and Year 1 have been developing their listening, role play and vocabulary across all areas of their learning.
