Learning in Year 3

Year 3's Exciting Adventure into Musical Theatre

Recently, Year 3 had the thrilling opportunity to attend a musical theatre performance of "Stick Man." This delightful show, based on the beloved children's book by Julia Donaldson, brought to life the adventures of Stick Man as he navigated the challenges of the world beyond his tree.

The experience was not just about watching a captivating story unfold on stage; it also served as a springboard for creativity. After the performance, the students engaged in an interactive session where they explored the elements of musical theatre. They learnt about key features such as:

- Storytelling: How narratives are conveyed through dialogue and song.

- Characters: Understanding the roles of actors and the importance of character development.

-Music and Dance: The integral role of songs and choreography in enhancing the story.

Inspired by the whimsical tale of Stick Man, the students embarked on a creative writing journey. They began crafting their own rhyming words and poems, using the themes and characters from the story as inspiration. This activity not only honed their writing skills but also encouraged them to experiment with language and rhythm.

The visit to see "Stick Man" was more than just a fun outing; it was an enriching educational experience that combined the magic of theatre with the joy of creative expression. Year 3 students left the theatre buzzing with ideas, eager to share their new poems and insights into the wonderful world of musical theatre. This adventure reinforced the importance of storytelling in all its forms, encouraging young minds to explore their creativity through words and performance.
