Learning in Year 6
Year 6 Learning
This half-term has been a very eventful and busy half-term for Year 6 !
In English, they have been learning about World War 2 through the picture book Rose Blanche, and they also read ‘Hamlet’ written by William Shakespeare. In order to learn about Hamlet’s character and analyse his good and bad traits, we began by doing a role-play of the story and thinking about why Hamlet did what he did and his actions and their consequences. They then used inference skills whilst reading to unpick Hamlet’s character further and then wrote a character analysis using passive sentences to make the writing sound more formal.
In Science, children have been learning about plants, classifying them and learning about the importance of plants on the planet. They had the opportunity to explore, touch and analyse different plants and learn the scientific vocabulary associated with them. They also debated about what life would be like without plants and the effects on global warming etc.
In Culture, children have been learning about genres of music and how music has changed over time. They focused
Specifically on Reggae music, its origins and the type of music it'is. They researched and devised posters and even wrote and recorded their own reggae songs based on a political issue.
Y6J pupils wanted to create and sell items such as bookmarks, knitted goods like baskets and hair bubbles, as well as other very creative things to raise money for Year 6. They raised an amazing £90.10. Well done girls!
Y6J would like to wish everyone who is celebrating a very Happy Christmas and wish everyone a Happy New Year!
