Learning in Year 1

This term in Culture, Y1I class have been on an exciting artistic adventure, exploring the inspiring work of Percy Kelly. The children discovered fascinating facts about his life and artistic style, gaining insight into what makes his work so unique.

After studying a selection of Kelly’s paintings, the children engaged in thoughtful discussions about the key elements that define his artwork. They observed his use of colour, shape, composition, and the bold black lines for which he is famous. Inspired by his techniques, the children were eager to create their own masterpieces. Using softened watercolours and bold outlines, they experimented with different techniques to produce artwork inspired by Kelly’s distinctive style.
